Dear Whisperers,

A quick reminder that submissions for short poetry to be considered for Wild Whispers, Issue 1 Vol. 2 will close on 30 September. If you have a poem you’d like to share, we’d love to receive it before the deadline.

We’re also excited to let you know that Wild Whispers is evolving! From this issue onward, we’ll be moving from a graphic-based online magazine to a clean, text-based format. This change will let the words shine more strongly on the page while keeping the focus on your voices and creativity.

Thank you for being part of our growing community—we can’t wait to read your poems.

Warm regards,
The Wild Whispers Team

Change to Magazine Format

7/9/2025

🌟 Hello Whisperers! 🌟

First of all — a HUGE thank you to everyone who’s sent in their beautiful poetry and thoughtful writings! 💌 We’re absolutely thrilled by the creativity pouring in. If you haven’t submitted yet, don’t worry — there’s still a couple of weeks left to send us your short poems or your musings about poetry. ✨

Now, just a quick (and exciting!) update:
We’re making a few changes to the magazine format for this issue — and maybe future ones too. Our previous layout was super pretty, but it was also very graphics-heavy and sadly, our current webhost just can’t handle all that visual goodness. 😅

So! We’re simplifying things and switching to a more text-based format, and republishing the previous issue in this new format as well so that no poems will be lost in the changeover. That means more space for your words to shine — poems, articles, reflections — all front and center. 💬📚 Don’t worry, it’ll still be beautiful — just a different kind of beautiful. And bonus: it gives us more time to focus on what we love most — your writing!

Some of you may know that Ruth and I have been navigating a very difficult time, with the loss of a family member and everything that’s followed. We truly appreciate the love and understanding from this wonderful community. 💛 We had hoped to include a special section on grief, but emotionally, we’re just not quite there yet. If you’ve submitted grief-themed poems, we’ll simply include them in the general pool.

On a brighter note: Because of all this, we’re now accepting up to 6 poems per person for this issue, just to keep things fair and flowing for everyone. 🎉 So feel free to send in more if you’d like!

As always, we welcome your short poetry, reviews, essays, and poetic reflections. Let’s keep this magazine a joyful, free, and open-hearted space for creativity. 🌈💫

With love and gratitude,
Wendy + Ruth

Wild Whispers 1:1 Shoreline Now Available & its Launch

8/4/2025

 Hello Whisperers!
Join us for the launch of Wild Whispers Poetry Magazine's inaugural Issue, 1, Volume 1 Shoreline—now available online in two different formats.
https://www.wildwhisperspoetrymagazine.com/ww-issues.html

We invite you to celebrate this exciting release at the launch party, hosted by the Perth Poetry Club. The event will take place from 2-4pm (WST +8) this Saturday the 12th of April at The Moon Café, 323 William St, Northbridge, Western Australia. There will be open mic slots available if you arrive early. Pizzas to follow.
Come along and enjoy an afternoon of poetry, with the launch and readings from selected poems featured in the magazine, featuring Wendy Beach, Deanne Leber, and Mar Bucknell.
Wild Whispers Poetry Magazine is released by Wendy Beach and Ruth Collins. This magazine is a culmination between two writers, one in Northern Ireland and one in Western Australia, and is part of a larger project looking into the lives of Irish convict women transported to Australia and considers what their stories and poetry might have said about that journey. Although the poetry is unthemed, the next magazine's (Issue 1, Volume 2) design theme will be Seaport.
If you can’t attend the launch in person, don’t worry—it will also be streamed on Zoom via Perth Poetry Club Events
https://www.perthpoetryclub.com/node/604

We look forward to seeing you there, whether in person or virtually! If you are going to read your published poem, please let us know as we will make sure we don't select it for reading when we are launching. Open mic slots are three minutes long. Most poets read two or three poems at that time.
Thank you for your contributions and ongoing support. We encourage deeper engagement with future issues and welcome pitches for (APA 7, UK English):
  • 500-800 word articles focusing on poetic history, culture, and lifestyles
  • 300-800 word mini-workshops centered on short poetry forms (known, little known, or of your own making), including an example and step-by-step walkthrough
  • 100-word poetry book reviews recommending recently published works you’ve enjoyed (preference given to books featuring short poetry) and which are readily available
  • 800-word in-depth poetry book reviews offering publicity while addressing publishing industry insights or current poetry trends
  • 200-word interviews spotlighting exceptional yet under-recognised figures in poetry or poets who are in unusual places or situations, and a short poem
  • 500-800 word narrative essays, optionally accompanied by up to five pages of supplementary poems or workshop materials

Once again, thank you. It has been a wonderful experience for Ruth and I.

Best regards,
The Wild Whispers Team.

Happy World Poetry Day Everybody!

Celebrated on the 21st of March every year, World Poetry Day calls on poets from all cultures to  promote poetry and the arts. Now is a great time to fire up the kindle and read some poetry eBooks, to head into your local bookstores to browse the Poetry section, or to head to a library to see what they have on offer. Also, it is a wonderful time to share your poems with friends, write a review of a poetry book you have enjoyed reading, or to hand out small cards with positivity poems to people on our city streets.

Poetry Book Reviews

Are you wanting to share a book review with us? You can send in a casual poetry review at any time of the year. Please put the book title, author, your 150 word review, and your (online) name. If you have a link to where the book can be purchased, please include that as well.

Poetry Submissions for Wild Whispers 1:1

The poets whose poetry was selected for publication were notified over the past week. We had over a thousand poems submitted, and it was quite a task for our wonderful selector to go through. But it is done now. Thanks for your submissions. Wild Whispers will be open again later in the year.

Thanks everyone!
